Dorothy Hafner was born 1952 in Woodbridge, Connecticut. Studied plastic art at Skidmore College, New York. This city being a constant source of inspiration to her, she has lived and worked in it ever since. She is one of the most prominent of the avant-garde representatives of the new ceramics scene. Hafner’s works stand out by virtue of the manner in which they optimally synthesise shape and decorative design. In this way she obtains a unity of design, the radical nature of which ref lects the pulse beat of our time. In 1977 she embarked upon designing limited edition utility porcelain. From 1979 onwards she worked for Tif fany. Hafner has worked for Rosenthal since 1982.
